3 Methods Of Demolition

If you need to have a building torn down for whatever reason, there are several ways that you can choose to have it done. Each method has benefits, and you may choose to use a combination of different methods, depending on the size of your house and how much demo work needs to be done. So, what are some of the methods that you can use for demolition?

Hand Demolition

One method is to do it all by hand. You would use tools to pull everything out and down. If you are doing some minor work on your house or there are fixtures or things in the house you want to save, this can be a good option. Doing everything by hand will let you be careful around delicate fixtures and make sure that you pull everything out in one piece. If the building you are tearing down is small, then it makes sense to do the demolition work by hand. That's because the other methods can be overkill when it comes to something like a shed or a small outbuilding.

Mechanical Demolition

This method of demolition would include things like wrecking balls and heavy equipment knocking down the building. This method will need to have experienced operators run the heavy equipment to prevent anyone from getting hurt during the demolition process. If someone who isn't familiar with a bulldozer or wrecking ball tries to use the equipment, it could end up getting caught in the building slated for demolition and cause serious issues. The company in charge of demo work may need to do some work inside the building to undermine it to make it easier to knock it over.

Explosive Demolition

While this method does get called explosive, it's actually generally implosive. The difference is that explosions send all the debris outward. Implosions cause all the debris to fall into the footprint of the building. The reason to use implosions over. explosions is that there is less risk of damage to other buildings or injuries to people around the demolition site. Generally, this method isn't used for houses because it can be more efficient to use a mechanical method. However, taller or larger residences may need to have the implosive demo method. Like with mechanical demolition, it may be necessary to undermine the building's supports to make sure that the building can come down safely.
